A student presents her research at last year's event.

The 27th annual C.P. Lee Endowed Graduate Student Research Presentation Day will be held Jan. 22, 2024, at the Wayne State University School of Medicine’s Margherio Family Conference Center.

The student-organized event showcases graduate student research at the university. Organizers aim to highlight the diverse spectrum of research from the various STEM fields at WSU and promote collaboration between researchers.

Both poster and oral abstract submissions are open to all WSU graduate and medical students pursuing a master’s, doctoral or medical degree in any STEM-related field. The deadline to submit an abstract is Dec. 8. The form to submit abstracts is now available at https://gsrpd9.wixsite.com/gsrpd/abstract-submission

The keynote speaker for this year’s event is WSU Professor Gil Mor, M.D., Ph.D., the John M. Malone Jr. M.D., Endowed Chair of Women’s Health Research and scientific director of the C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth and Development.

Before joining WSU, Dr. Mor was a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Reproductive Science at Yale University School of Medicine.

He was editor in chief of the American Journal of Reproductive Immunology from 2009 to 2019, and the journal Placenta from 2020 to 2022. He is the recipient of several national and international prizes, including the Pearl River Distinguished Professor Award from Jinan University in Guangzhou, China, and the J. Christian Herr Award and the American Journal of Reproductive Immunology Award from the Society for Reproductive Immunology. He is member of the Academy of Scholars at WSU and a recipient of the American Society for Reproductive Immunology Distinguished Service Award.

Chuan-Pu Lee, known to her friends as “C.P. Lee,” was a strong advocate for graduate students. Constantly encouraging students, she reminded them that diligence and determination were the only limits to achieving their success. Dr. Lee generously offered pre- and post-doctoral travel awards to assist with the cost of national and international conferences.

Before her death on July 20, 2016, Dr. Lee worked with the GSRPD committee to set up a cash prize endowment for exceptional presentations each year. Her life and memory will continue to serve graduate students through this event, formally titled the Chuan-Pu Lee, Ph.D. Endowed Graduate Student Research Presentation Day.
