Margit Chadwell, M.D. ’94, associate dean of Student Affairs and Career Development for the Wayne State University School of Medicine, recently completed a prestigious program for women leaders in medicine.

The Rudi Ansbacher Advancing Women in Academic Medicine Leadership Scholars Program is designed to develop medical leaders by focusing on preparing for leadership, transitioning into leadership, sustaining success in leadership and transitioning again into new leadership positions.

The two-year program is offered in collaboration between the University of Michigan School of Medicine and the Stephen Ross School of Business in Ann Arbor.

Dr. Chadwell was the sole WSU participant in the most recent cohort of 24 leaders. She is now the second WSU graduate of the program, following Elisabeth Heath, M.D., professor of Oncology.

Her team of four won the capstone “Shark Tank” competition, securing $30,000 for a grant for a project, with Jack Sobel, M.D., former dean, and Basim Dubaybo, M.D., vice dean of Faculty Affairs, serving on a multi-institutional advisory board.

“It was a wonderful experience for me, especially having a committed group of colleagues navigating together through the pandemic in our various environments, which extended our cohort’s tenure by at least a year,” Dr. Chadwell said.
