Sonja Klumpp made her move to the Motor City from her native city of Boston because of the Wayne State University School of Medicine’s clinical training opportunities, collaborative environment and the welcoming atmosphere she felt during her interview. She is now a member of the Admissions Committee, president of the student organization Procedures for Future Physicians, and Class of 2026 Service-Learning representative. She also is one of two tour coordinators within the Warrior M.D. Ambassador program.
Question: What are the most rewarding aspects of being a Warrior M.D. ambassador?
Answer: As a Warrior M.D. ambassador, I enjoy being able to showcase my experience here at Wayne, while also learning about prospective students and their unique backgrounds. I love giving student tours, answering questions and providing advice, given my own experience in medical school.
Q: What is your favorite part of the Warrior M.D. community?
A: My classmates. The overly supportive and collaborate nature of the student body here at Wayne State is truly unique. My classmates are always sharing resources, supporting each other and socializing in free time, while always welcoming each other’s unique passions and interests. I feel like I am getting through medical school as part of a team, and I know I can count on those around me when I need to.
Q: Why did you choose Wayne State University for medical school?
A: I chose Wayne State for medical school because of the strong clinical training I will get, both in the hospital and throughout the community. Also, during my interview, I appreciated the welcoming and collaborate nature of the student body. Four years is a long time, and I knew I would be attending a school where I got a strong education and enjoyed myself while doing so.
