Well Women Wednesdays health event set for Aug. 9

The Wayne State University Office of Women’s Health and Wayne Health Mobile Unit will conduct free health screenings and education programs in Detroit on Aug. 9.

The Well Women Wednesdays event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cadillac Square in Detroit, between Woodward Avenue and Bates Street, north of Randolph Street.

A multi-disciplinary team of health care experts will address health across all eras of a woman’s lifespan. Women of all ages and stages are encouraged to attend. Not sure where to start with your health? You will receive a “Women’s Health Passport” to record the screenings that you receive and the activities in which you participate.

Attendees can also enter a raffle for prizes.

The WSU Office of Women’s Health, established in 2019, promotes and improves the health of women and girls across Michigan. Its work derives from a dedicated focus upon five key pillars: Research and Development, Community Education and Health Literacy, Implementation Science, Policy and Advocacy, and Leadership and Education.

The office created Well Women Wednesdays, an implementation program developed in partnership with Wayne Health and other organizations to provide on-site health screenings and health education to improve primary health preventive measures. Partners who cover all areas of women’s health are available to educate and screen participants at Well Women Wednesdays events. Areas covered include pregnancy and infant health, cardiovascular health, reproductive and sexual health, cancer prevention and mental health.

Partners involved in Well Women Wednesdays include Wayne State University, Wayne Health, Priority Health, Delta Dental, Make Your Date, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, the Center for Health and Community Impact, the WSU College of Education, the Detroit Parent Network and the Michigan Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program.
