Registration is now open for a one-day “Ultrasound Bootcamp” for medical school faculty interested in incorporating the imaging technique into their undergraduate medical teaching.
The course will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first day of the 2023 World Congress on Ultrasound in Medical Education, hosted by the Wayne State University School of Medicine on Sept. 7-10 in Detroit.
The course is designed for medical school faculty interested in integrating ultrasound education at the undergraduate level. It will focus on innovative ways of integrating ultrasound education during the pre-clerkship and clerkship years and provide learners with the basic tools about developing a longitudinal curriculum to accomplish that goal. The session also will include didactic lectures and hands-on image capturing skills using standardized patients to help simulate actual teaching sessions.
Space is limited to 24 learners to allow for an ideal learner-to- instructor ratio.

The conference is expected to showcase the comprehensive undergraduate ultrasound curriculum at the WSU School of Medicine, introduced as the first program of its kind in the nation, in 2006. The curriculum has since been implemented across all four years of undergraduate medical training. More than 12,000 students have been exposed to the curriculum during pre-clinical and clinical years, which has been successfully integrated into Gross Anatomy, Cardiac Physiology, Physical Diagnosis/Clinical Skills course, including Cardiac, Abdominal and Musculoskeletal Pathology.
The event will feature the latest in innovative research in ultrasound education, including the use of artificial intelligence to teach and assess learner competencies. Medical students, mid-level practitioners, allied health professionals, residents and graduate students will have the opportunity to interact with national and international research experts.
The deadline to submit abstracts and take advantage of early registration pricing has been extended to July 31.
