Every week, we profile a Wayne State University medical student. This week’s student is Charlotte Thill, a member of the Class of 2024 who served as an M.D. Ambassador for the School of Medicine in her earlier years of medical school. When she's not caring for patients at our partner health care systems, Thill is involved in a variety of student organizations such as the Cass Clinic, a student-run free clinic, where she helps run Saturday clinics and organizes volunteer services. She also is involved in the American Medical Women's Association as advocacy chair, running events to raise awareness around various topics such as period poverty and the school-to-prison pipeline. She also co-hosts and produces, with another medical student, "From Skirts to Scrubs," a podcast on women's health and medical history. Listen on Apple, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts and more.
Question: Why did you choose Wayne State University for medical school?
Answer: I chose Wayne because I love the school and students' dedication to serving Detroit. As someone who aspires to be a community-focused and service-oriented physician, Wayne proved to be the perfect fit for me. From its classes to its organizations to its partnership with the community, Wayne has opportunities at every corner to explore what service means to you.
Q: What do you do to support your health and wellness?
A: To support my health and wellness, I make an effort to take time each day for little things I love, whether it's watching a new episode of a Marvel TV show, catching up on my favorite YouTubers, or reading a chapter of my book. I also always take Friday and Saturday afternoons off to give myself time to relax and see friends.
Q: What is your favorite part of the Warrior M.D. community?
A: My favorite part of the Warrior M.D. community is how driven my peers are by service work. Everyone I know is involved in one of the many organizations here and is passionate about the communities they serve. Service reminds us all why we want to be physicians in the first place while giving us a chance to get away from studying and connect with our community.
