Wayne Pediatrics will host its third annual diaper drive in February and March to collect diapers, baby wipes, creams and feminine hygiene products to support Detroit families in need.
Wayne Pediatrics is a one-stop practice including primary, specialty and behavioral health board-certified pediatricians to ensure a child’s overall wellness at every stage of development. Since opening its doors in 2020, Wayne Pediatrics’ diaper drives have been a yearly event to assist the community.
“Health inequity, which includes access to diapers and feminine hygiene products, is an issue in our Detroit community,” said Wayne Pediatrics practice manager Samona Owens. “According to the National Diaper Bank Network, one in three American mothers struggle to supply diapers for their babies, causing mothers to skip meals and even miss work or school. That's why Wayne Pediatrics hosts this diaper drive – to uplift our community and give families a solid foundation.”
Donations may be dropped off at 400 Mack Ave., Detroit, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donations can also be mailed.
Collections, benefitting the Metropolitan Detroit Diaper Bank, will be accepted until March 17.
“We’re excited to further Detroit’s health equity while supporting our community’s children at every stage of their development,” Owens said.
Wayne Pediatrics is the academic clinical practice that is home to Wayne State University Department of Pediatrics faculty physicians. Wayne Pediatrics offers academic pediatricians who are committed to serving the children of Detroit an opportunity to do so while integrating the teaching of future physicians, research, patient care and community engagement.
