Register now for monkeypox webinar

A webinar on the current monkeypox outbreak in the United States will be presented Dec. 8 by Public Health Prepared, a program of the Wayne State University School of Medicine’s Center for Emerging and Infectious Diseases and the Michigan Center for Infectious Disease Threats and Pandemic Preparedness at the University of Michigan.

The webinar is the second of a four-part series focusing on a range of issues concerning the role of public health in responding to infectious disease outbreaks and disasters.

The panel discussion on monkeypox will run from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and will focus on the outbreak throughout the U.S., the response, and the stigmatization of sexual minorities.

Kate Guzman, R.N., B.S.N., M.S., administrator of Medical Services for the Oakland County Health Division, will serve as moderator. Panelists include Christie Clement, R.N., M.S.N., chief of Communicable Disease for the Oakland County Health Division; Erin Fanning Madden, Ph.D., M.P.H., assistant professor of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences at Wayne State University School of Medicine; Odaliz Lanfranco, M.D., Infectious Disease physician for Henry Ford Health; and Claudia Richardson, M.D., M.P.H., medical director of the Detroit Health Department.

The WSU Center for Emerging and Infectious Diseases and the UM Public Health Prepared were both created in response to needs made evident by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Preparedness Roundtable series provides a space for cross-sector education and engagement for those in public health, health care and other related fields to build capacity and foster greater collaboration among those working in emergency preparedness.
