For the second year in a row, Wayne Pediatrics, Midtown’s newest integrative health care practice for children, will host a community health event addressing social determinants of health impacting families. This year the practice will host its Health & Nutrition Expo under the theme “Treasure Your Health” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Art Park Eastern Market on Oct. 8 (rain date Oct. 15).

The event is free to the community. 

Activities include interactions with members of the Detroit City Football Club, who will conduct demonstrations and sign autographs. Children’s book author P.J. Bass will autograph copies of her book for sale. Children will be given a treasure map with opportunities to collect  up to 10 “treasures” as families visit resource stations that include:

• Primary Care Station (appointment scheduling with a pediatrician)

• Childhood Literacy Station (free books/book signing with Author P.J. Bass)

• Clothing Station (gently-used children’s clothing, hats and gloves)

• Exercise Station (resources and demonstrations)

• Food and Fresh Produce Station (free food boxes)

• Horizons Project Station (HIV/AIDS testing/screening)

• Mental Health and Development Station (resources)

• Nutrition Station (resources and healthy snacks)

• Stay-Active Station (featuring Detroit City Football Club)

• Vaccination Station (immunizations)

“We’re excited once again to bring our practice to the community via this health expo along with our partners in supporting the health and wellbeing of metropolitan Detroit’s children,” said Eric McGrath, M.D., Infectious Diseases and Prevention, and Horizons Project HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, Wayne Pediatrics. “In addition to free resources and having fun, for families who may need to catch up on their children’s vaccinations it will be the perfect time to come out and meet our pediatricians and specialists and interface with a variety of community agencies.”

In partnership with the Detroit Health Department, immunizations will be available for the entire family, including COVID -19 vaccines and boosters for babies as young as six months old. Student volunteers from the Wayne State University School of Medicine will help administer vaccinations.

Wayne Pediatrics’ Health & Nutrition Expo was organized with grant funding from the Michigan State Medical Society Foundation. Community partners supporting the expo include the Detroit City Football Club, the Detroit Health Department, Eastern Market, Henry Ford Health and the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
