Wayne State University’s spring 2022 Commencement series featured seven ceremonies over three days, held for the first time at the new Wayne State University Fieldhouse in Detroit.
For the School of Medicine’s 94 degree candidates, a hooding and commencement was held May 6 for doctoral candidates and a commencement was held May 8 for master’s candidates. The ceremonies included congratulatory remarks from President M. Roy Wilson, members of the WSU Board of Governors, faculty, and the deans of participating schools and colleges.
“I am proud of you for all you have overcome in pursuit of your academic goals, and in pursuit of excellence,” Wilson said at the first ceremony. “This year is different because you are different. Our graduates, our Warriors, in spite of all the world threw at you, including a global pandemic that shut down much of the world, you kept fighting and earned your degrees. Some people call that grit. On this campus, we call that Warrior Strong.”
Graduates affiliated with the School of Medicine included 12 candidates for Doctor of Philosophy degrees, as well as 24 candidates for Master of Public Health degrees; 12 candidates for Master of Science degrees; eight for Master of Science in Genetic Counseling degrees; 35 candidates for Master of Science in Basic Medical Sciences degrees; and three candidates for Graduate Certificates.
