WSU students dominate American College of Physicians annual Scientific Meeting

Medical students from the Wayne State University School of Medicine dominated the American College of Physicians Michigan Chapter’s annual Scientific Meeting.

WSU students presented 37 percent of the abstracts submitted for the meeting, held Oct. 14-17.

The ACP is the professional home for internists and internists-in-training.

Two students won awards for their presentations.

Manar Edriss, a fourth-year student, won second place in the Research category for “Roles of Demographics in Stress-Induced Hair Loss: An Assessment.”

Shabber Syed, a third-year student, won third place in the Clinical Vignette category for “Preventing Shock in NSAID-Induced BRASH Syndrome.”

“The American College of Physicians provides an opportunity for students to disseminate their scholarly work. Student participation in scholarship is so important to the development of our students as health professionals,” said Diane Levine, M.D., professor of Internal Medicine and vice chair for Education. “We are training students to become physicians who not only consume research but contribute to the advancement of health care to achieve the quadruple aim. Our students are making a difference and we are so proud of them!”
