Dr. Laura Benjamins joins Wayne Pediatrics

Laura Benjamins, M.D., M.P.H., has joined the Wayne State University School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics and the Wayne Pediatrics practice as a clinician-educator professor.

A specialist in adolescent medicine, Dr. Benjamins’ work includes experience in the juvenile justice system and with young people living with HIV. Her research interests include sexually transmitted infections and reproductive health, with a particular focus on HIV and human papillomavirus, or HPV.

A 1998 graduate of the WSU School of Medicine, she previously served as a professor of Pediatrics and director of the M.D./M.P.H. program at the University of Texas McGovern Medical School, Department of Pediatrics Division of Adolescent Medicine.

Dr. Benjamins completed her pediatric residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and completed fellowships in primary care and adolescent medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center, where she also obtained a master’s degree in public health. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Vassar College in New York.
