Wayne Health and Molina Healthcare host free May 15 Metro Detroit Community Health Event 

Community organizations across metropolitan Detroit will come together to offer a wide range of free health screenings, community resources and COVID-19 testing and vaccinations in Midtown Detroit from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 15.

The Metro Detroit Community Health Event, sponsored by Wayne Health and Molina Healthcare, will take place at the Detroit Mack Health Center, 400 Mack Ave., as part of the 2021 Metro Detroit Heart and Stroke Walk/Run.

Free health screenings, testing and vaccines will include:

• COVID-19 Pfizer vaccines for those ages 12 and older (ages 12-15 pending Emergency Use Authorization by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
• COVID-19 testing (drive-through or walk-up)
• Blood pressure screening
• HIV testing
• Blood lead level testing
• Diabetes, cholesterol and kidney function screenings

Community resources for behavioral health, substance abuse, mothers and babies, and domestic and sexual violence survivors will be available at the event, along with:
• Free, fresh produce bags
• Free boxed lunches
• Free activity bags for children
• Free face masks
• 50 backpacks with school supplies
• 50 free DTE light bulb kits

Dr. Darrius from 97.9 WJLB radio will provide musical entertainment from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“The Wayne Health team has long worked to improve care delivery and well-being of people in the Detroit community, providing medical and behavioral services while also addressing social issues impacting health,” said Phillip Levy, M.D., M.P.H., chief innovation officer of Wayne Health. “We are thrilled to partner with so many other like-minded area nonprofits in this event offering a wide array of preventive care, screenings and community resources for COVID-19 and beyond.”

“Molina is excited to partner with Wayne Health to provide health screenings, COVID-19 testing, COVID-19 vaccinations, and connecting families to additional care and community resources,” said Heidi McGlinnen, associate vice president of Molina Healthcare of Michigan.

Other partners in this community event include ACCESS, Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan, Detroit Parent Network, Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network, Focus: HOPE, Gerber Life Insurance Co., Hey Y’all Detroit, Honor Community Health, LGBT Detroit, Mae’s Helping Hands, Metropolitan Detroit Diaper Bank, Nylah’s Sister nonprofit for minority children, Pontiac Creative Arts Center, PR KIDS Maternal Infant Health Program, Wayne Pediatrics and Young Men-N-Motion.
