Medical school hosting virtual celebration for M.D. graduates on June 2

The Wayne State University School of Medicine will celebrate its 274 graduating medical students via a special broadcast at 1 p.m. June 2 at commencement.med.wayne.edu

Grads in regalia
Class of 2020 graduates try on their graduation regalia after picking up a special commencement package earlier this week.

While the stream will be available at 1 p.m., viewers may tune in any time after that to view the entire ceremony.

The virtual ceremony will include addresses by Dean Mark Schweitzer, M.D.; WSU President M. Roy Wilson; Vice Dean of Medical Education Richard Baker, M.D.; Class President David Gelovani; and keynote speaker Jack D. Sobel, M.D., distinguished professor of Internal Medicine and former dean.

Dr. Baker will administer the oath to the graduating physicians.

Each graduate will receive a Class of 2020 Commencement Package, and a Doctor of Medicine certificate.

The new doctors are encouraged to make this celebration their own. On social media, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to share their photos, well-wishes and memories using the hashtags #WayneMDGrad and #MyWSUStory

For its master’s and doctoral students, the School of Medicine hosted a virtual graduation April 29 in conjunction with those held by other WSU colleges and schools.

Congratulations, Class of 2020!
