Dr. Gray discusses Wayne Pediatrics

Herman Gray, M.D., M.B.A., chair of Wayne Pediatrics, was a guest of WDET’s Stephen Henderson on Tuesday. Dr. Gray discussed how the new practice plan, Wayne Pediatrics, is reshaping the manner in which care will be delivered to children and their families in Detroit and the surrounding region.

As part of that transformational change in all-encompassing health care, Wayne Pediatrics has created the Urban Children’s Health Collaborative, an initiative to connect urban children with better health care in all aspects of their lives.

Dr. Gray also talked about the wider health care disparities that exist, both in Detroit and around the country. “Certainly, poverty and racism are pretty much universally acknowledged as the foundational components of societal disparities,” he said. “We believe that being minimized, being disrespected, being uncertain of your place in society induces toxic stress.”

Dr. Gray also is featured in Crain’s Detroit Business, discussing the need for a new clinical pediatrics home and its vision for the future serving the children and families of Detroit.
