Breast Cancer Symposium 2019 set for March 2

The Wayne State University School of Medicine and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute will present "Breast Cancer Symposium 2019" on March 2 at the Somerset Inn in Troy, Mich.

The program is geared toward physicians, fellows, residents, pathologists, physician assistants and nurse practitioners in the field of hematology/oncology.

Registration deadline is Feb. 22. The cost is $125 for physicians, $50 for nurses and other allied health care providers, and free to students, fellows and residents. Register online at www.karmanos.org/BreastCancerSymposium.

The day's program is as follows:

7:30 to 8 a.m.: Registration and continental breakfast

8 to 8:10 a.m.: Opening remarks: Lydia Choi, M.D., symposium director, assistant professor of Surgery for KCI and WSU.

8:10 to 8:40 a.m.: "Breast Reconstruction Update," Faisal Al-Mufarrej, M.D., Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for KCI and WSU associate professor of Surgery.

8:40 to 9:40 a.m.: "Genetics and Genomics in Breast Cancer Disparities Research," Lisa Newman, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, FASCO, chief, Division of Breast Surgery and director, Interdisciplinary Breast Program at Weill Cornell Medicine/New York Presbyterian Hospital Network.

9:40 to 10 a.m.: Break

10 to 10:30 a.m.: "Medical Oncology Updates - ASCO and SABCS in Your Practice," Lawrence Flaherty, M.D., medical director, Clinical Trials Office for KCI and WSU professor of Oncology.

10:30 to 11 a.m.: "Update on treatment of Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Syndromes," Michael Simon, M.D., WSU professor of Oncology, leader of the Breast Multidisciplinary Team and director of Cancer Genetic Counseling Service and co-leader of Population Studies and Disparities Research Program for KCI.

11 a.m. to noon: "Late Recurrences in ER Positive Breast Cancer: The Next Frontier," Daniel Hayes, M.D., FACP, FASCO, the Stuart B. Padnos Professor of Breast Cancer Research at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center.

Noon to 12:30 p.m.: Lunch.

12:30 to 1:30 p.m.: Case presentations and discussion panel.

1:30 to 2 p.m.: "Radiotherapy for Breast Cancer in 2019: Details and Decision-Making," Michael Dominello, D.O., WSU and KCI assistant professor of Oncology, Division of Radiation Oncology.

2 to 2:30 p.m.: "Update in Pain Management Strategies," Michael
Stellini, M.D., M.S., FACP, FAAHPM, WSU clinical professor of Medicine, director of the Supportive Care Program, director of the Detroit Medical Center/WSU Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship.
