The Art in Medicine Student Organization, using generous donations from the Medical Alumni Affairs Association and the Office of Student Affairs, hosted the Wayne State University School of Medicine's first Dr. David and Patrician Barron Bridge lighting celebration Nov. 15.

The bridge, named in honor of alumnus donor David Barron, M.D. '54 and his wife Patricia, connects Scott Hall to the Mazurek Medical Education Commons building via an enclosed, windowed walkway that overlooks Brush Street to the north and the Detroit Medical Center and downtown Detroit to the south. It will remain illuminated for the duration of the holiday season.

"The event was organized as a way to lift student spirits and show our thanks to all of the faculty and staff for everything they do to ensure that we become the best physicians we can be some day. We hope for this to be a new tradition for many years to come in the School of Medicine," said Art in Medicine Co-President Ashley Kramer, an M.D./Ph.D. student.

The celebration included holiday music, hot cocoa, a cider bar and cookies.

The Art in Medicine Executive Board includes Kramer and fellow Co-President Manpreet Kaur, Vice President Tera Arvoy, Treasurer Elizabeth Kupser, Art Commissioner Emily Nghiem, Communications Manager Megan Mackenzie, Event Coordinator John Jarad and Community Engagement Coordinators Louisa Antonelli and Anita Vaishampayan.
