Annual Michigan Dermatological Society Meeting set for Nov. 7

The annual Michigan Dermatological Society Meeting will take place Nov. 7 at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

The meeting, which runs from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., is free, and features the 41st annual Hermann Pinkus Lecture, given by keynote speaker Valerie Callender, M.D., FAAD.

Dr. Callender is a board-certified dermatologist known for her cutting-edge approach to the management of hair loss in women and the treatment of pigmentation disorders. She has undertaken leadership roles in many dermatological organizations, including the Women's Dermatologic Society and the Skin of Color Society. She is past-president of both societies, and was recently elected to the board of directors and executive committee of the American Academy of Dermatology.

She is the founder and medical director of the Callender Dermatology and Cosmetic Center, located in Washington, D.C. Dr. Callender received her medical degree from Howard University, where she also performed her residency and serves as professor of Dermatology.

The schedule for the day includes:

7 to 7:30 a.m.: Registration, coat check and breakfast, Margherio Family Conference Center
8 to 8:30 a.m.: Slide review, Kado Clinical Skills Center
8:30 to 10 a.m.: Case Presentations and Patient Examination, Kado Skills Center
10:15 to 10:45 a.m.: "The Legacy of Dr. Ken Hashimoto," Meena Moossavi, M.D., clinical assistant professor, WSU Department of Dermatology, Jaffar Lecture Hall, Scott Hall
10:45 to 11 a.m.: "New Biopsy CPT Codes," Ali Moiin, M.D., clinical associate professor, WSU Department of Dermatology, Jaffar Lecture Hall, Scott Hall
11 a.m. to noon: "Current and Emerging Therapies for Scarring Alopecia," the 41st annual Hermann Pinkus Lecture, Valerie Callender, M.D., Callender Dermatology and Cosmetic Center, Jaffar Lecture Hall, Scott Hall
Noon to 12:30 p.m.: Dermatology Senior Resident Presentations (10 minutes each), Jaffar Lecture Hall, Scott Hall
12:30 to 1:30 p.m.: Society Business Meeting, Jaffar Lecture Hall, Scott Hall
12:30 to 1:30 p.m.: Resident luncheon and lecture, Margherio Family Conference Center. Topic: "The Approach to the Hair Loss Patient"

Parking has been moved to Parking Structure 4, adjacent to the flat lot on Canfield.
