Join the Dean's Circle: Sign up for Interview Days

The spotlight is on the Wayne State University School of Medicine. With the celebration of our 150th anniversary, the new Warrior Strong campaign, a new medical education curriculum, a boastful match rate of 98.3 percent, and the impactful work our physicians-in-training are doing locally and nationally, the School of Medicine is grabbing the attention of prospective students.

The Wayne State University School of Medicine has had nearly 9,000 applicants for the class of 2023, with several weeks remaining for submissions. The number of applicants has doubled since 2016. With this increase, the School of Medicine needs volunteers to participate in our Interview Days.

Erlene Seymour, M.D, '08, has been interviewing potential medical students for two years and encourages more alumni to do the same.

"The interview is the only way to figure out how an applicant interacts person to person, which is vital to our field. On paper applications, everyone can look great," Dr. Seymour explained. "The interview gives an applicant a chance to reveal their personal side and natural rapport with people, which ends up being the most important aspect in physician and patient communication."

Interviews are held on Mondays and Fridays. There are varying levels of commitment available:

  • Green Ambassador: 5 sessions
  • Gold Ambassador: 10 sessions
  • Dean's Circle: 20 sessions

Each session is four hours. There are morning sessions from 8:45-11:45 a.m. and afternoon sessions from 12:45-3:45 p.m. There is a one-hour interview prep per session and a one-time, one-hour orientation session by Skype or in person.
