Annual Graduate Student Research Presentation Day set for Oct. 18

The 2018 Chuan-Pu Lee, Ph.D., Endowed Graduate Student Research Presentation Day will be held Oct. 18 in Scott Hall on the Wayne State University School of Medicine campus.

The annual event was developed to highlight research being conducted by graduate students and foster interdisciplinary connections among science, technology, engineering and math departments at Wayne State University.

They keynote speaker for the event will be David Ginsburg, M.D., from the University of Michigan. Dr. Ginsburg's laboratory studies the components of the blood-clotting system and how disturbances in that function lead to human bleeding and blood-clotting disorders. He will present "Cargo Receptors in the ER: From Clotting Factors to Cholesterol Regulation" at 2:35 p.m. in the Green Lecture Hall.

Dr. Ginsburg is the James V. Neel Distinguished University Professor of Internal Medicine and Human Genetics and the Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis Professor of Medicine. A member of the Life Sciences Institute at the University of Michigan Medical School, he is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator. He is a recipient of the E. Donnall Thomas Lecture and Prize and Stratton Medal from the American Society of Hematology, the Basic Research Prize and the Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Heart Association, the Stanley J. Korsmeyer Award from the American Society of Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Medical Colleges' Award for Distinguished Research in the Biomedical Sciences, and the Lucian Award from McGill University.

He is a past-president of the American Society of Clinical Investigation and has served on the councils for the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine.

The event, which is open to the public, will include oral and poster presentations from graduate students from STEM departments across Wayne State University. Opening remarks begin at 8:45 a.m. in Scott Hall's Room 3125 and continue throughout the day. All in attendance will have the chance to enter a raffle for prizes graciously donated by local and corporate sponsors.
