Women in Medicine and Science hosts WSU associate provost for faculty at Sept. 24 'power of networks' discussion

The Wayne State University School of Medicine's Women in Medicine and Science Group will host "The Power of Networks for Women Academic Leaders," a special seminar and group discussion set for noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 24 in the School of Medicine's Margherio Family Conference Center. All members of the community are welcome to attend. A light lunch will be provided.

The event's special guest lecturer is Wayne State University's Associate Provost for Faculty Development and Faculty Success Annmarie Cano, Ph.D., who will share how networks supported her work goals and how leadership programs like the Higher Education Resource Services Institute at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania contributed to her robust network. She will also provide exercises for participants to evaluate their mentoring networks and ideas for leadership development programs at WSU. All are welcome, but suggested attendees include all academic faculty and trainees, academic leaders, and those aspiring to be leaders.

Dr. Cano, a WSU professor of Psychology, received her bachelor's degree in from Princeton University, and both her master's and doctorate degrees, in Clinical Psychology, from Stony Brook University.

She was one of 68 women in the STEM field selected to attend the Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) Institute and Luce Program for leadership Development at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania.

Her research interests include diversity, inclusion and equity in higher education, and clinical health psychology, couples and family psychology.
