Karmanos Prostate Cancer Awareness baseball game set for Aug. 17

The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, in partnership with the McLaren Macomb Foundation, joins the United Shore Baseball League for the inaugural Karmanos Prostate Cancer Awareness Game Aug. 17 at Jimmy John's Field in Utica.

The Westside Woolly Mammoths take on the Utica Unicorns at the game, which will encourage men's health awareness and raise funds for prostate cancer research. The evening will include fun activities for the entire family.

Elisabeth Heath, M.D., Wayne State University School of Medicine professor of Oncology and associate center director for Translational Sciences for KCI, will throw out the first pitch with prostate cancer survivors.

Gates open at 6 p.m. and the game starts at 7:05 p.m. at the stadium located at 7171 Auburn Road, adjacent to M-59, in downtown Utica.

The $35 cost includes patio seating, an all-you-can-eat barbecue buffet with unlimited soft drinks and water, activities for children, post-game fireworks and more. Each $35 ticket will include a $10 donation to support prostate cancer research at Karmanos.

Prostate cancer survivors can receive a complimentary ticket with the purchase of two companion tickets while supplies last. Other perks include a group photo on the field before the game, a chance to hold the flag during the singing of the national anthem, prostate cancer awareness information and resources, and recognition of prostate cancer survivors throughout the game.
