Academy names Dr. Deepak Kamat chief editor of pediatric care textbook

The American Academy of Pediatrics has named Wayne State University School of Medicine Professor of Pediatrics Deepak Kamat, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.A.P., editor in chief of "Textbook of Pediatric Care," the main textbook on pediatrics published by the academy.

Dr. Kamat also will be editor in chief of "Pediatric Care Online," a web-based resource for pediatricians. He is vice chair of Education in the WSU Department of Pediatrics and the designated institutional official for DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan.

"I am honored and excited that the academy selected me for this position," Dr. Kamat said.

He previously served as associate editor of the book. He is also an editor of the AAP books "Common Cardiac Issues in Pediatrics," "Text of Global Health" and "Challenging Cases of Pediatric Care."

In addition, his book "Quick Reference Guide to Pediatric Care" won the silver medal at the 2018 Independent Publishers Book Award in its category. He is active in multiple national and international medical societies. He has written and co-written more than 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts, review articles, book chapters and case reports. He serves on the editorial board of five journals and as ad hoc manuscript reviewer for many journals.
