Robert R. Frank Student-Run Free Clinic golf scramble set for June 23

The Robert R. Frank Student-Run Free Clinic will host its annual charity scramble golf outing June 23 at Chandler Park, 12801 Chandler Park Drive in Detroit, to raise funds to support the work of Michigan's first student-run free clinic.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Both experienced golfers and newcomers to the sport will enjoy the golf scramble, which offers the chance to participate in an informal tournament on an open course.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with a silent auction, will be included with the 18 holes of golf. Golfers will also have an opportunity to tour the clinic, which is located across the street from the golf course.

Cost is $400 for a foursome, $200 for a twosome and $100 for a single. A foursome of medical students is $200 and a twosome of medical students is $100. Cost is $50 for a single medical student. Non-golfers may enjoy dinner only for $35.
Register for the outing here.

Sponsorships also are available, including at the dinner, on beverage carts, at holes and on golf carts. Learn more and make contributions online here.

All proceeds will be used to purchase medication, laboratory services and equipment that will allow the clinic to operate and expand.

The student-run free clinic has provided free primary and preventive care, medications, laboratory services and social work to uninsured patients in Detroit since 2010. The clinic, open from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, also provides essential learning opportunities to Wayne State University's medical students, preparing them to provide top-tier care as future physicians.

The clinic is solely supported by sponsorships, donations and fundraisers, with 100 percent of money raised going toward patient care and operational costs. Every $1 donated allows the clinic to provide $4 of health care.
