Detroit Medical Orchestra to perform Enescu, Gershwin and Dvorak on May 6

The Detroit Medical Orchestra will present its next performance, "International Influences," at the Wayne State University Community Arts Auditorium on May 6.

The fourth concert in the DMO's current season begins at 4 p.m., and will feature performances of "Romanian Rhapsody No. 2, Op. 11 in D major" by George Enescu, George Gershwin's "Cuban Overture" and AntonĂ­n Dvorak's "Symphony No. 9, Op. 95 in E minor (from the New World)."

The Detroit Medical Orchestra, formed by a group of Wayne State University School of Medicine students and faculty musicians in 2010, is a 60-member orchestra consisting of medical students, medical school faculty, physicians and nurses who believe music has the power to heal and comfort.

Admission is free, though the goodwill offerings are accepted to support a number of programs the orchestra supports.

The Community Arts Auditorium is on the campus of Wayne State University at 5401 Cass Ave., just north of the Walter P. Reuther Library on the northwest side of Cass Avenue between West Palmer Avenue and West Kirby Street.

Parking is available for $7 at the Detroit Historical Museum (5401 Woodward Ave). The parking fee supports programs of the Detroit Historical Museum and Detroit Historical Society.
