Five School of Medicine faculty receive Graduate School Awards

Five faculty members of the Wayne State University School of Medicine have been selected to receive Graduate School awards for 2018.

These awards celebrate Wayne State graduate faculty's accomplishments and commitment to both their own research and scholarship, and the training and support of their master's and doctoral students. Awardees will be honored at the April awards ceremony.


Michele Cote, Ph.D., M.P.H.
, associate professor of Oncology and associate director of the Center for Education, received an Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award.

The award celebrates faculty members who are recognized by their departments and graduate students as superb graduate mentors. Recipients inspire their students with their dedication and enthusiasm for their area of research, and provide guidance, support and encouragement for their protégés, leading to publications, networking opportunities and excellent career placement.

This year the Graduate School awarded 25 Competitive GRA Awards across disciplines. The faculty listed below will receive 12-month GRA positions for winter and spring/summer terms of 2018-2019 to support their research and create opportunity for select students in their programs.

Aliccia Bollig-Fischer, Ph.D., assistant professor of Oncology.

Bhanu Jena, Ph.D., the George E. Palade University Professor and Distinguished Professor of Physiology.

Sokol Todi, Ph.D., associate professor of Pharmacology.

Xiaohong (Mary) Zhang, Ph.D., associate professor of Cancer Biology.
