Dean's Message: Emergency Preparedness -- Active Attackers session

To the School of Medicine Family:

Recent shootings such as those at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., have prompted the Wayne State University administration to offer emergency preparedness training sessions. Today, we must all remain vigilant and train ourselves to the best of our ability in what to do in such situations.

To make access to the training easier, I have asked that the Wayne State University Police Department conduct a session on the School of Medicine campus. On March 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Jaffar Lecture Hall, WSU Police Lt. Dave Scott will present "Emergency Preparedness — Active Attackers," a program designed to help us remain safe in the event of an active shooter on campus.

The training includes recommendations for how to react in shooting incidents and motor vehicle attacks, as well as what to do after police arrive on the scene. It incorporates survival tips, emergency preparedness videos and a question-and-answer session.

It behooves all of us to learn more about what we can do to remain prepared in the case of an event involving an active shooter on our campus. If you see something, say something. To report a concern, contact the WSU Police Department at 313-577-2222.
