Tickets now available for March 9 Lampoon

The Aesculapians, the honor society of the Wayne State University School of Medicine, will indulge in some good-hearted fun and ribbing while helping a Detroit organization with the annual Lampoon next week.

Lampoon, a longtime tradition among WSU medical students, consists of tongue-in-cheek skits and videos produced by members of the four medical classes. Each class produces about 20 minutes of material parodying medical school life for the evening's entertainment. The fun has a serious side. Lampoon raises about $10,000 annually for organizations that improve life in Detroit.

This year's event, "Lampoon 2018: The Wayne Show Network," is scheduled for March 9 at the Majestic Theater, 4120 Woodward Ave., Detroit. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Ticket prices through April 7 at $15 for general admission or $35 for VIP tickets, which include seats in the front row, two drink tickets and a selection of snacks. Tickets can be purchased here.

This year Lampoon will benefit the non-profit Lawn Academy, which is dedicated to teaching young men ages 11 to 19 how to serve their community while providing them a platform for leadership and success. The Lawn Academy's work has been recognized with the Governor's Service Award and the Spirit of Detroit Award from the City Council of Detroit.

"Aesculapians Honor Society members have been working closely with this organization to mentor young men through monthly school 'check-ups' and join them in volunteering events involving lawn care for elderly residents of many Detroit neighborhoods," said Preeya Prakash of the Class of 2018 and co-president of the Aesculapians. "We are incredibly honored to work with this organization and fundraise on its behalf. It has been wonderful to see how (founder) Eric Miller fosters a sense of responsibility and dedication to one's community in each young man, and we have been grateful to play a small role in their development. We hope to raise enough funds for the Lawn Academy to ensure that it remains a beacon for these young men for years to come."

If you can't attend the Lampoon but would like to donate to the Aesculapians to support the Lawn Academy you can do so here.
