The Robert R. Frank Student-Run Free Clinic and Street Medicine Detroit are once again teaming up for their annual 5K charity fun run April 14 at Historic Fort Wayne in Detroit.

Proceeds raised from the 2018 5K Street Run fund patient care provided by the clinic and Street Medicine Detroit, both of which are organized by Wayne State University School of Medicine medical students.

The event will begin with registration and check-in at 7:30 a.m. in the Visitor's Center at Fort Wayne. The run will begin at 9 a.m. Runners may register online here.

The Robert R. Frank Student-Run Free Clinic offers quality primary and preventive care to uninsured patients in Detroit. The clinic also provides learning opportunities to WSU's medical students, educating and preparing them to provide top-tier care as future physicians. The clinic has been offering free primary care, medications, laboratory services and social work to patients since 2010.

The clinic is entirely supported by donations and fundraisers, with 100 percent of funds raised going to patient care and operational costs. Every $1 donated allows the clinic to provide $4 of health care.

Street Medicine Detroit's mission is to ensure access to quality medical care for Detroit's unreached homeless population by bringing the clinic directly to patients. The chapter is run by Wayne State medical students partnering with local social service organizations to provide weekly outreach at shelters and on the street. Street Medicine Detroit is committed to a multidisciplinary approach to medicine in which patients are offered preventive and primary care, and access to local housing and health resources.

The organizers are also seeking sponsors for the event. Sponsor names will be placed on the clinic's website, and social media channels, and on banners and materials at the event, in addition to being announced the day of the run.
