You can have lunch, dinner or drinks, enjoy some camaraderie at a nearby Detroit restaurant and raise money to support the Robert R. Frank Student-Run Free Clinic at the same time next month.

On March 9, 15 percent of receipts from noon to 11:30 p.m. at the Traffic Jam & Snug will go toward funding the free clinic. The restaurant is located at 511 West Canfield, Detroit.

The clinic organizers need at least 20 people to RSVP here by March 6 to make the event successful.

When you purchase your meal, mention the clinic's name and follow the restaurant's instructions to have 15 percent of your tab donated to the clinic.

The Robert R. Frank Student-Run Free Clinic, first proposed by a member of the Class of 2008, and eventually founded in 2009 by the School of Medicine's Class of 2012, was the first student-run clinic established in Michigan.

Named in honor of a School of Medicine dean known for his commitment to the underserved, the clinic celebrated a grand opening in 2010.

Open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays inside Mercy Primary Care, the clinic provides primary and preventive care, medications, laboratory services, mental health counseling, nutrition counseling, alcohol and smoking cessation, and social work to uninsured patients in Detroit. The clinic is solely supported by sponsorships, donations and fundraisers, with 100 percent of funds raised going to patient care and operational costs. Mercy Primary Care donates its facilities.
