DeShaun Harris named director of Medical and Student Services

DeShaun Harris has been appointed director of Medical and Student Services in the Department of Academic and Student Programs, and the Office of Medical Education for the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Richard Baker, M.D., vice dean for Medical Education, announced the appointment Nov. 29.

Harris replaces Ron Spalding, who retired from the position in January.The position oversees multiple key units in the Medical Education division.

"With his extensive knowledge of business operations, Mr. Harris is more than qualified to meet the needs and demands of the university as we continue the transition to modernizing our School of Medicine," Vice Dean Baker said.

Harris previously managed the Kado Clinical Skills Center in the Mazurek Commons and was responsible for efficiently operating the center, where Wayne State University School of Medicine medical students and other affiliates train in patient care.

He brings more than 17 years of corporate management and engineering experience, specializing in operations, project management and logistics.

Harris is completing a master's of business administration degree in International Business and Global Supply Chain at Wayne State University.
