American College of Physicians awards John Ebright, M.D., Mastership status

John Ebright, M.D., M.A.C.P., F.I.D.S.A., a Wayne State University School of Medicine retired professor of Medicine, has been awarded Mastership in the American College of Physicians, the national organization of internists.

Election to Mastership recognizes outstanding and extraordinary career accomplishments. Masters must have made a notable contribution to medicine, including teaching, outstanding work in clinical medicine (research or practice), contributions to preventive medicine, improvements in the delivery of health care and/or contributions to the medical literature.

"I am deeply honored to have received the Mastership award, and I have been greatly honored to be a faculty member of the Wayne State University School of Medicine since 1990, in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases," he said.

He will accept the honor during the new Masters Convocation at Internal Medicine Meeting 2017, ACP's annual scientific conference to be held March 30-April 1 in San Diego.

Dr. Ebright retired from the School of Medicine about two years ago, and is now medical director for Covenant Community Care's Moross location. Covenant is a faith-based federally-qualified health care program with five clinics reaching out to underserved and underinsured people of Detroit.

He continues to serve the School of Medicine, giving lectures to second-year medical students in Microbiology and Pathophysiology, and is attending physician at Detroit Receiving Hospital with Infectious Diseases fellows, Medicine residents and WSU medical students.

In addition, the Covenant Community Care clinic on the east side of Detroit hosts third-year WSU students for their Family Medicine four-week rotations and six-month continuity clinic experiences.

Dr. Ebright received his medical degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago, in 1971. He completed residency and fellowship training at the University of Michigan in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases after serving two years in the United States Army as a medical officer. He also spent five years as chief of Internal Medicine at the Detroit Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The American College of Physicians is the largest medical specialty organization and the second-largest physician group in the U.S.
