The Detroit Medical Orchestra will perform a Feb. 3 concert that will entertain music lovers and raise funds for the medical crisis relief efforts of the Syrian American Medical Society.

The concert will feature Ludwig van Beethoven's "Symphony No. 6 Pastoral," Bedrich Smetana's "The Moldau" and Johannes Brahms's "Academic Festival Overture."

Admission is free, but the orchestra will accept donations to benefit the Syrian American Medical Society's project to address the medical crisis relief caused by the fighting in Syria. The society is a nonpolitical, nonprofit, professional and medical relief organization that represents hundreds of Syrian-American medical professionals across the United States. Members are working on the front lines of crisis relief in Syria and neighboring countries to alleviate suffering and save lives.

The Detroit Medical Orchestra, established in 2010 by a WSU medical student, won second place in the community orchestra division of the American Prize in Orchestral Performance 2015 national arts competition. It consists of WSU medical students, faculty and physicians, and nursing staff from surrounding hospitals.

The performance begins at 8 p.m. at the Wayne State University Community Arts Auditorium, located at 5401 Cass Ave., in Detroit. Parking, at a cost of $7.50, is available in WSU Parking Structure 1, located at 450 W. Palmer.
