Michael Kasprzak, D.O., has been named the 2017-18 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Brain Injury Medicine Fellow in the Wayne State University School of Medicine's Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation-Oakwood.

Dr. Kasprzak, who served this year as the department's administrative chief resident, is the department's third Brain Injury Medicine fellow since the program began in 2014.

A 2007 graduate of the University of Michigan, he received his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He will complete his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with the WSU Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation-Oakwood in June.

"There were challenging times during residency, but when I reflect back I am very glad to have gone into this field," Dr. Kasprzak said. "It is very gratifying to see patients achieve a level of functional independence once leaving the rehabilitation floor. As my residency comes to a finish, I have to set new goals. One of these goals is getting back involved with research as well as focusing on patients who have a traumatic brain injury. From severe traumatic brain injury to mild traumatic brain injury, helping these patients throughout residency has been truly remarkable when they return to a level of functional independence."
