Kresge Eye Institute wins Research to Prevent Blindness unrestricted grant

Research to Prevent Blindness has awarded a $115,000 grant to the Wayne State University School of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology at Kresge Eye Institute to support research into the causes, treatment and prevention of blinding diseases.

Mark Juzych, M.D., M.H.S.A., chair of the WSU Department of Ophthalmology, will direct the unrestricted grant.

RPB is the world's leading voluntary organization supporting eye research. The Kresge Eye Institute first received funding from RPB in 1960, and has been continuously funded by the organization since 1974. To date, RPB has awarded grants totaling $4,258,000 to the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

"The continued funding from RPB to the Kresge Eye Institute will enable us to continue our research mission to help those affected by eye disease and support the next generation of eye researchers," said Dr. Juzych, director of the institute.

Since it was founded in 1960, RPB has channeled hundreds of millions of dollars to medical institutions throughout the United States for research into blinding eye diseases. For information on RPB, RPB-funded research, eye disorders and the RPB Grants Program, go to http://www.rpbusa.org/.
