School of Medicine faculty, alumni contribute to first online Pathology curriculum

Elvesier's PATHPrimer, the first comprehensive online Pathology curriculum available for Pathology residents, physicians and faculty, contains multiple editing and writing contributions from Wayne State University School of Medicine faculty members and alumni, including Professor of Pathology Martin Bluth, M.D., Ph.D., who serves as one of five lead editors.

PATHPrimer draws from the knowledge and expertise of thought leaders in Pathology to deliver comprehensive anatomic Pathology curriculum. It includes contributions from the Department of Pathology's Patrick Michael Long, Ph.D., who leads the Immunology section; Assistant Professor Paul Tranchida, M.D. '98, who leads the Laboratory Management and Clinical Laboratory Informatics section; and Director of Transfusion Services and School of Medicine alumna Tammon Nash, M.D. '02, who co-leads the Transfusion Medicine section. School of Medicine Pathology residency graduate and Beaumont Health Transfusion Medicine Fellow Elly Landolfi, M.D., is a contributing author.

PATHPrimer's key features and functions include lessons and topics that cover core disciplines, with more than 1,500 topics and 1,200 primer questions addressing Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, the ability for residents and educators to easily identify learning objectives, assess progress and customize studies and more.

Residents may use the curriculum to gain competence as a physician as they move through each rotation in their program. Once they've completed a specific area of the curriculum, they can check how they are performing compared to other residents. They also can use the comprehensive practice engine to prepare for the board exam.

Program directors and teaching faculty are provided with a consistent curriculum across all academic Pathology disciplines, giving faculty more time to share their own personal experiences and expertise with residents. They also can track resident progress through the curriculum and monitor performance.
