A daylong brain research symposium for Wayne State University researchers will take place Sept. 29 at the new Integrative Biosciences Center.

"BrainStorm 2016: A Brain Research Symposium" will feature trainee data blitz talks, faculty technology blitz talks, TED-inspired talks, a poster session and a closing reception.

"There is a rapidly growing interest in neuroscience throughout the university," said Alexander Gow, Ph.D., a Charles H. Gershenson Distinguished Fellow, associate director and professor of the WSU Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics, and professor of Pediatrics and of Neurology. "This event will bring together researchers from across the university, including the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Medicine, the College of Engineering and the College of Pharmacy."

Dr. Gow, chair of the Brain@Wayne Initiative, said goals of the event include promoting communication and collaboration in neuroscience and brain research, facilitating neuroscience education for both undergraduate and graduate students and improving awareness of brain research at WSU.

Zhifeng Kou, Ph.D., assistant professor of Biomedical Engineering and Radiology, and Alana Conti, Ph.D., associate professor of Neurosurgery, co-chair the program committee for BrainStorm 2016.

The keynote speaker will be Kamil Ugurbil, Ph.D., director of the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research at the University of Minnesota. He is a principal investigator of the Human Connectome Project, and is a member of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine and the National Academy of Inventors.

Registration and Poster Preview: 9:30 to 10 a.m.

Welcome and Brain@Wayne introduction: 10 to 10:30 a.m.

Data blitz talks: 10:30 to 11 a.m.

Keynote presentation: 11 a.m. to noon.

Lunch and undergraduate interaction: noon to 1 p.m.

Technology blitz talks: 1 to 1:30 p.m.

TED-inspired talks: 1:30 to 2 p.m.

Poster session and reception: 2 to 4 p.m.
