Wayne State University faculty physicians helped Detroit area hospitals achieve some of the highest national rankings in U.S. News and World Report's 27th annual Best Hospitals report.
The Children's Hospital of Michigan at the Detroit Medical Center placed among the best in the country in four pediatric specialties according to the 2016-17 Best Children's Hospitals rankings: Neurology and Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Orthopedics and Cardiology and Heart Surgery.
Many of the physicians providing care in these specialties are faculty members of the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
"This national recognition reflects our commitment to bring the very best, compassionately delivered and quality-driven medical care to children and their loved ones in this community and to all the patients we serve from around the world," said the Children's Hospital of Michigan's Pediatrician-in-Chief and Wayne State University School of Medicine Chair of Pediatrics Steven Lipshultz, M.D., F.A.A.P., F.A.H.A. "This affirms the expertise of the Children's Hospital of Michigan in providing advanced patient care to some of the most seriously ill and medically complex children, who often have rare illnesses from before birth to young adulthood."
Harper University Hospital, which the magazine ranked third in Michigan, is also largely staffed by WSU faculty physicians. Harper's "high-performing" departments included diabetes and Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Surgery, Geriatrics, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Heart Failure.

The Wayne State University Physician Group's Department of Neurology and Department of Neurosurgery at Harper University Hospital were ranked first in Michigan and 27th nationally by U.S. News and World Report.
