Herbert Smitherman Jr., M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., the assistant dean of Community and Urban Health for the Wayne State University School of Medicine, and interim vice dean of Diversity and Inclusion, has been appointed to the Michigan State Medical Society Board of Directors.
Theodore Jones, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., associate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the Wayne State University School of Medicine and president of the Wayne County Medical Society of Southeast Michigan, announced that the society elected Dr. Smitherman to the position this week.
Dr. Smitherman joins a cohort representing MSMS District 1. His co-directors in that district, all from Wayne County, include Mohammed Arsiwala, M.D.; T. Jann Caison-Sorey, M.D.; J. Mark Tuthill, M.D., and James Sondheimer, M.D., associate professor Internal Medicine for WSU.
The Michigan State Medical Society, consisting of 15,000 physicians in the state, provides resources, education and advocacy on issues of health care.
