Robert Lisak, M.D, professor of Neurology for the Wayne State University School of Medicine, is the senior editor of the second edition of "International Neurology: A Clinical Approach," published this month by Wiley-Blackwell.
The 776-page textbook includes the variations in causes, presentations and treatment of neurological disease throughout human populations. It includes comprehensive coverage of neurological diseases and disorders with a clinical approach to diagnosis, treatment and management, presented in bite-sized, templated chapters for rapid clinical referral.
"The book is designed and organized to emphasize the differences and similarities of presentation of neurological diseases in different geographic regions of the globe," said Dr. Lisak, also a professor of Immunology and Microbiology. "The many authors and sections editors cover the diseases as they present in different populations and areas of the world. Thus neurologists from both developed and less-developed nations learn the full breadth of these neurologic disorders. In the shrinking of the globe, with people traveling widely, it is important for neurologists to understand how diseases might present in individuals not from their own area."
Authors in the second edition include WSU School of Medicine faculty members Alex Tselis, M.D., Ph.D., professor of Neurology, and Kumar Rajamani, M.D., D.M., associate professor of Neurology. Former WSU faculty members among the authors include Steven Levine, M.D., professor of Neurology and of Emergency Medicine for State University of New York Downstate Medical Center; Richard Lewis, M.D., professor of Neurology and director of the Electromyography Laboratory for Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles; Gregory Van Stavern, M.D., associate professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and of Neurology for Washington University; and Prati Bhattachcarya, M.D., a neurologist at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland.
