The inaugural Edward S. Thomas Memorial Golf Outing, scheduled for May 23 at the Detroit Golf Club, will celebrate the legacy of Edward Thomas and raise funds to benefit the Edward S. Thomas Endowed Professorship in Emergency Medicine at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
A maximum of 72 golfers will be registered -- one foursome per hole -- for the outing. The event includes access to the practice range, lunch, beverages on the course, cocktails and dinner. A Lincoln Navigator is the prize for a hole in one on hole 3.
The range will open and lunch will be available at 10:30 a.m. A shotgun start is set for 11:30 a.m. Cocktails and dinner will begin at 5 p.m. Non-golfers may attend the cocktail reception and dinner.
The outing is sponsored by the Wayne State University School of Medicine, the WSU Department of Emergency Medicine and Medical Center Emergency Services.
Thomas, the late husband of Jane Thomas, Ph.D., a member of the School of Medicine's Board of Visitors, served as president of Detroit Receiving Hospital following years of dedication and service at the Detroit Medical Center. He was a leader in the Detroit metropolitan community and involved in a leadership capacity with many nonprofit organizations, including Children's Home of Detroit, the Michigan Hospital Association and multiple governor task forces.
The cost is $250 for an individual golfer or $1,000 for a foursome. To attend the cocktail reception and dinner only is $85.
