Sophia Vinogradov, M.D., Class of 1983, has been appointed to lead the Department of Psychiatry for the University of Minnesota.

The Ann Arbor, Mich., native, an internationally renowned schizophrenia researcher, Dr. Vinogradov previously served as professor and vice chair of the Department of for the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. She also served as associate chief of staff for Mental Health at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

After receiving her medical degree, Dr. Vinogradov completed a psychiatry residency at Stanford University School of Medicine, where she was named chief resident. She completed a Psychiatric Neurosciences Research Fellowship at the Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Stanford University.
