Medical students raise more than $2,500 for 2015 'Movember' campaign

The annual Movember fundraising campaign was deemed a success by organizers, with 33 Wayne State University School of Medicine students raising $2,572 for men's health initiatives, more than double the amount donated last year.

The medical students' seventh annual fundraising campaign in the name of men's health started Nov. 1. Men were encouraged to shave the first day, then grow full moustaches for the 30 days of November, turning themselves into walking conversation starters and collecting donations for charity.

"I would like to highlight the amazing fundraising efforts of second-year medical student Bryce Bredell, who raised $716, which is super impressive," said third-year student Christopher Mann, who organized this year's WSU efforts.

Movember is an international tradition started in 2003 that raises awareness and funds via men who turn themselves into walking conversation starters and collect donations for charity. No goatees or beards are allowed. Since its start, efforts like those at WSU have raised more than $650 million for the Movember Foundation and helped fund more than 1,000 programs to date through impact investments focused on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity.
