Wayne County Medical Society sponsors Dr. Belotte for AMA Advocacy Leadership Conference

Jimmy Belotte, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the Wayne State University School of Medicine, has been selected by the Wayne County Medical Society of Southeast Michigan as its representative to attend the 2016 American Medical Association National Advocacy Leadership Conference.

"With a passion for women's health, attending this conference will be a tremendous opportunity for me to learn from prominent political, civic and medical leaders," Dr. Belotte said. "This will allow me to have more insights in the changes occurring in our health care system, and better appreciate the impact those changes will have on women's health."

Dr. Belotte, also a member of the Gynecologic Oncology Multidisciplinary Team for the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, will attend the conference, scheduled for Feb. 22-24, 2016, in Washington, D.C. The society is sponsoring his attendance at the conference.

"Your experience and accomplishments, as evidenced in your application and CV, are impressive. Furthermore, your apparent desire to make a difference in the lives of patients and physicians by initiating an interest in organized medicine is outstanding," Adam Jablonowski, executive vice president of the WCMSSM, wrote in a letter notifying Dr. Belotte he had been selected. "We truly need more physicians like you."

The AMA touts the conference as leaving attendees more well-informed and empowered to advocate for patients, the medical profession and the future of health care.

"I will seek the opportunity to advocate for more funding for women's health and stress the need for better strategies to reduce clinical outcomes disparities in women affected with cancers," Dr. Belotte said.
