WSU's Doug Skrzyniarz now chair-elect of AAMC's government relations group

Doug Skrzyniarz, associate vice president of Government Affairs for the Wayne State University School of Medicine, was elected chair-elect of the Association of American Medical Colleges' Government Relations Representatives Steering Committee.

Skrzyniarz, who also oversees the school's Medicine and Political Action in the Community group, will serve one year as chair-elect before becoming chair of the GRR Steering Committee in October 2016.

"It is a real honor to be selected by my colleagues across the country for this leadership position," Skrzyniarz said. "It is a real testament to the work we are doing at the Wayne State University School of Medicine and opportunities associated with such a respected medical school. I look forward to the leadership opportunity to better position academic medicine on Capitol Hill and with the executive branch."

The Government Relations Representatives is the national government affairs committee for the AAMC. The group advances nonpartisan advocacy for academic medicine by providing a forum for federal relations staff at medical schools, teaching hospitals, and academic societies to consult with AAMC representatives on federal legislation and strategies. The leadership of the GRR is provided by a steering committee of medical school government affairs representatives nominated by their peers.
