Reginald Eadie, M.D., Class of 1995, was named a Health Care Hero by Crain's Detroit Business magazine in the category of Outstanding Physician Achievement.
Dr. Eadie, president of the Detroit Medical Center's Sinai-Grace Hospital, was recognized for his efforts to combat obesity and its attendant health effects by launching a "Say No to Soda Pop" campaign at the hospital that eventually expanded into a city effort.
Dr. Eadie, the Crain's article said, worked with city, Wayne County Commission and Wayne County Health Department officials, along with students spreading the word on the anti-obesity campaign at their schools.
During the campaign, his hospital cafeteria saw about a 15 percent drop in the sales of soda, while bottled water and other health drink sales increased.
