WSU alum to appear on TV?s ?The Doctors? Feb. 22

Wayne State University School of Medicine alumnus David Rosenfeld, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.S.C.R.S., (Class of 1992), is scheduled to appear on the national daytime talk show "The Doctors," set to air Feb. 22. The 60-minute program airs in Detroit at 10 a.m. on WXYZ-TV (Channel 7).

Dr. Rosenfeld, a Los Angeles-based proctologist and colorectal surgeon, will appear on the show to comment as an expert on a general proctology issue, taped earlier in the year. He said he received good feedback from the producers, and hopes to be on again.

The doctor was "discovered" via Google -- he said one of the show's associate producers searched for a Los Angeles and quickly found Dr. Rosenfeld. The producer watched two videos Dr. Rosenfeld had appeared in, and contacted him shortly after. "It was definitely a surprise to have them call my office," he said.

Dr. Rosenfeld had coincidentally contacted the show several times over the last year, hoping to share information about a new Doppler-guided hemorrhoid removal outpatient procedure he has been performing for three years. He learned the non-surgical technique, called a Rectal Anal Repair, or "internal hemorrhoid lift," at a conference. It cuts recovery time from two weeks to five days, and requires only suturing instead of cutting, with little to no pain.

He said he is one of only two doctors in California performing the procedure.

Dr. Rosenfeld specializes in diagnostic colonoscopy, surgical colonoscopy, hemorrhoid therapy, hemorrhoid surgery, anal diseases, pilonidal cyst, rectal prolapse and laparoscopic surgery. He has been in private practice since 1998, and spent seven years at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.  He is on staff at Simi Valley Hospital, Aspen Surgery Center and also is a clinical assistant professor at County Hospital, affiliated with University of Southern California. According to his website, www.davidrosenfeldmd.com, he is double certified in general surgery and colon and rectal surgery and is one of the few experts in the country on anal carcinoma.

"The Doctors," launched in 2008, provides frank discussions in an off-the-cuff style. Experts like Dr. Rosenfeld weigh in on guest issues and dispense information about various health topics of the day. The show's hosts and medical guests can debate everything from the benefits of plastic surgery to the controversy surrounding autism and vaccines.
