Andre Konski, M.D., M.B.A., M.A., F.A.C.R., professor and Chair of the Wayne State University School of Medicine's Department of Radiation Oncology, has been named the scientific program Chair for the 2012 American Radium Society's annual meeting.

The meeting, titled "Personalized Medicine in an Impersonal World," is scheduled to take place April 28 through May 2 in Las Vegas, Nev.

As program Chair, Dr. Konski, who also serves as chief of Radiation Therapy for the Barbara A. Karmanos Cancer Center, decided the theme and worked with a committee to develop the program, panels and speakers, as well as place abstracts into the various sessions and selected moderators for the sessions.

Dr. Konski said the personal medicine panel will include Anthony Shields, M.D., Ph.D., professor of Internal Medicine for the School of Medicine and the Karmanos Cancer Center. The stereotactic panel will include Michael Joiner, Ph.D., professor of Radiation Oncology for WSU and Karmanos.

The invited keynote speakers will include Mark Pegram M.D., professor of Medicine and associate director for Clinical Research at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and Laura van't Veer, the Angela and Shu Kai Chan Endowed Chair in Cancer Research, leader of the Breast Oncology Program and director of Applied Genomics at the University of California San Francisco Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The Janeway Lecture will be given by David Larson, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.R., professor emeritus of Radiation Oncology and Neurological Surgery at the University of California San Francisco.

The American Radium Society is the oldest multidisciplinary oncology society in the world, founded in 1916.
