Dr. Brooks elected chair of American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology

Beth Ann Brooks, M.D., M.S.A., professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences for the Wayne State University School of Medicine, has been elected chair of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Board of Directors.

"Serving on the board is a natural extension of my daily work as a psychiatric educator at Wayne State," said Dr. Brooks, who also is associate chair of Education and program director of Psychiatry and Child/Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Programs in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences. "The foundation of medical student and residency education is based on competencies, and ABPN certification acknowledges competent psychiatrists and neurologists who are engaged in lifelong learning. It is an honor to have been elected chair of the board."

The board consists of eight psychiatrists and eight neurologists. Dr. Brooks is in her eighth and final year on the board.

The ABPN promotes excellence in psychiatric and neurology practice through certification, and is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties.
