Dr. Bridge promoted to associate dean of Undergraduate Medical Education

Patrick Bridge, Ph.D., has been promoted to the position of associate dean of Undergraduate Medical Education for the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Maryjean Schenk, M.D., M.P.H., M.S., vice dean for Medical Education, announced the promotion July 20.

Dr. Bridge, formerly assistant dean of Evaluation, Student Information and Education Research since 2004, will be responsible for oversight of all undergraduate medical education curriculum and curriculum assessment. He also will supervise all associated academic services, including records and registration, testing and evaluation, and academic support.

In addition, he will be responsible for curriculum management and reporting systems, and will oversee the Liaison Committee on Medical Education accreditation process, including related Association of American Medical Colleges annual reporting requirements.

"I am fortunate to be given the opportunity to further advance the Undergraduate Medical Education program," Dr. Bridge said. "I know with the current faculty and staff associated with the UME program, we will continue to produce high-quality physicians to serve the community."

Dr. Bridge joined the Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences faculty in 1996. He received his doctoral degree in evaluation and research from Wayne State University in 1995. He holds a master's degree from the University of Detroit and earned his undergraduate degree from Eastern Michigan University.

"Dr. Bridge's expertise in educational measurement, research design, statistics, program evaluation, educational theory and psychometrics is incalculable," Vice Dean Schenk said. "His knowledge in these areas and his dedication to our School of Medicine are invaluable."

He will develop a strategic plan to guide the work of his office. "I am a firm believer that in order to obtain both short-term and long-term goals there needs to be an agreed upon plan," he said.
